Chinese Communist leader Mao Zedong declared the creation of the People's Republic of China. After, years of the Communist party gaining power in WWII.

Korean War Begins

June 25 1950

Armed with Russian weapons, North Korea attacked South Korea. The UN then sent troops to help aid South Korea from being taken over by communism.

This caused the US to stock up on nuclear weapons. While, paying less for a conventional army. This caused more tension between the Soviets and the US, bringing them to the brink of war.

Death of Joseph Stalin

After, Stalin's death a brief power struggle took place in Russia. Then Nikita Khrushchev came up on top. Khrushchev was less threatening to the US then Stalin, which made America less on edge.

America Develops Hydrogen bomb

The US CIA helped a coup in Iran take power. They overthrown the previous leader despite him being elected by the people. This caused a long time resentment of the US in Iran.

Polish Revolt

The Polish people heard of Krushchev's talks of peaceful co-existence. Due to the less Stalinized Russia they revolted, hoping to have a government with less Soviet leaders. After a few days, their demands were met.

After, years of working in secret, Russia sent the first man-made satellite into space. It was a huge advancement of the time. And the development shocked the US. This caused the Russian-American space race.
