Religion

700 BC

Oman adapted the Islamic religion and embraced the practices and the Prophet Muhammad.

Invasion

1508 - 1650

Invaded by Portuguese by a century.

The Portuguese was banished and Oman gained the control of their country.

Death of Sultan

1856

The Sultan Sa'id Al-Busaid dies. His sons fought for power leaving Oman without a leader.

Britain

1908

Entered friendship treaty with the British Government.

Rebellion

1954 - 1959

A five year rebellion began against the Sultan's efforts to expand government and control the interior of the country.

Rebellion

1964

Rebellions began in the Dhofar Province and were supported by British help and Yemen's help.

New Sultan

July 23, 1970

New leader gained power. Sultan Qaboos bin Sa'id gained power and started the renaissance for Oman. He started Oman's modern government. Expanded education and health facilities and made Oman an overall more peaceful country.

Constitution

1996

Oman had created it's very first written constitution. It is called the Basic Statutes of the State.

No Terrorism

2001

Oman pledged to a non-terrorism act against the US. The remain very peaceful in US standards.
