Germany and the Soviet Union signed the Nazi-Soviet Nonaggression Pact.

The Japanese Path to War


September 1931

Japanese soldiers had seized Manchuria, which had natural resourced that Japan needed.


December 1936

Chiang ended his military efforts against the communist and formed a united from against the Japanese.

Japan's attack on China in the summer of 1937 had already aroused strong criticism.
