On the night of August 11, 2012 there was a party with a bunch of teenagers who had an excessive amount of alcohol. There was a 16 year old girl and two high school star football players. The two boys supposedly raped the girl at the party and between 3 parties. The boys picked the girl up and took her in the car where they raped her then took her into the basement at one of the houses and again raped her.

Before the trial of the rape that happened in August could take place, Trent Mays, one of the alleged rapists, asked his attorney to move the location and delay the trial, but the judge denied the request.

In addition to the school, the police also investigated the office of the Steubenville school board. The police wanted to do a thorough search of everything to make sure that the boys weren't involved in any other crimes previous to this one.
