(George Walton Lucas, Jr.) was born on May 14th, 1944 in Modesto, California and was raised on his parent's walnut ranch.

D-DAY INVASION

1944

The D-day Invasion refers to the landing of Allied troops on the beaches of Normandy, during World War II.

ATTENDS HIGH SCHOOL IN CALIFORNIA

Lucas went to Downey High School in Modesto, California.

VIETNAM WAR

1959

This was a conflict between the communistic North Vietnam and the democratic south Vietnam.

The Algerian War was a conflict between France and the Algerian Independence movements.

GRADUATED FROM DOWNEY HIGH SCHOOL

During his high school years, Lucas was very interested in drag car racing. A terrible accident ended his dreams of becoming a professional racecar driver.

ATTENDS COLLEGE AND FILM SCHOOL

Lucas first attended Modesto Junior College but then soon transferred to University of California Film School. It was here where he made his first short films including, THX-1138 which won first prize at the National Student Film Festival.

JFK ASSASSINATION

1963

Presidentt John F. Kennedy was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald while his motorcade rode through the streets of Dallas, Texas.

ATTEMPS TO JOIN AIRFORCE

1966

Lucas tries to join the Air Force but is refused due to too many speeding tickets.

FIRST SATELLITE TO ORBIT MOON

1966

Luna 10 was a 1966 Soviet Luna program, robotic spacecraft mission, also called Lunik 10. It was the first artificial satellite to orbit the moon.

FIRST MAN ON THE MOON

1969

NASA sends Apollo 11 to the moon. Astronauts Neil Armstrong Michael Collins and Buzz Aldrin were aboard the spacecraft. Neil Armstrong became the first man to walk on the moon.

MARRIES MARCIA LOU GRIFFIN

1969

His wife went on to win an Academy Award for her editing work on the original Star Wars. (They divorced in 1983 after adopting a daughter Amanda in 1981. Lucas has since adopted two children Katie in 1988, and Jett in 1983)

FORMS LUCASFILM LTD.

1971

He forms his own production company, Lucasfilm LTD. He then went on to write and direct the semi-autobiographical film American Graffiti which won the Golden Globe Award and had 5 AcademyAward Nominations.

END OF VIETNAM WAR

1975

The war ended with the capture of Saigon by Vietnam People's Army. It reunified North and South Korea.

RELEASE OF STAR WARS

1977

Star Wars premiered and made over $513 million worldwide. It was made for $11 million. It won 7 Academy Awards.

NEW YORK CITY BLACKOUT

1977

New York City experienced a blackout which lasted 25 hours. Five hundred police officers were injured and over four thousand looters were arrested.

RELEASE OF INDIANA JONES AND THE LOST ARK

1981

Steven Spielberg signed on as director for Indiana Jones, a series Lucas developed about a humorous archaeologist and his adventures.

RONALD REAGAN ELECTED PRESIDENT

1981

Ronald Reagan was elected as the 33rd President of the United States. He went on to serve a second term as President.

LIVE AID CONCERTS

1985

Concerts in Philadelphia and London raise over $50 million dollars for famine relief in Ethiopia.

CONSTRUCTION OF SKYWALKER RANCH/ CREATION OF TH-X

1985

This was built to accommodate technical, administrative and creative needs of Lucasfilm. He also founded TH-X which was created to uphold the highest quality standards pf picture making.

CREATED GEORGE LUCAS FOUNDATION

1990

Created the foundation to help improve education and encouraged the use of project-based and team-based learning.

HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE LAUNCHED

1990

NASA launched the Hubble Space Telescope which cost $1.5 million dollars.

FINAL STAR WARS MOVIE RELEASED

2005

Revenge of the Sith, the third and final episode of the series was released in May.

HURRICANE KATRINA HITS SOUTHERN U.S.

2005

Hurricane Katrina hit the southern United States, making landfall in New Orleans. This was the deadliest and most destructive hurricane of the season.

INDIANA JONES AND THE CRYSTAL SKULL

2008

Lucas released the latest film of the series and it became another box office hit.

FIRST AFRICAN AMERICAN PRESIDENT ELECTED

2008

Barak Obama is elected the 44th President of the United States and made history by being the first African American President.

PRODUCED RED TAILS

JANUARY 2012

Lucas produced Red Tails, another box office hit which told the story of famed African American Pilots during World War 2.

SUMMER OLYMPICS

2012

The Summer Olympics were held in London, which is the third time the city has hosted.

SOLD LUCASFILM TO THE WALT DISNEY COMPANY

OCTOBER 2012

Lucas announced his retirement from films and sold his company to Disney. He received about 40 million shares of Disney stock as part of the deal. Disney got the rights to the Stars Wars franchise.

ENGAGED TO MELLODY HOBSON

2013

Lucas announced his engagement to Mellody Hobson, president of Ariel Investments and chair of Dreamworks Animation.

BOSTON MARATHON BOMBINGS

2013

Three people were killed and 264 injured when two terrorists bombed the Finish line of the 2013 Boston Marathon.
