The Korean War

1948 - July 1949

The Republic of Korea recalled South Korea was established in the zone that had been occupied by the United States. In July the United States had to cut back only 500 Americans troops there.

North Korean forces swept across the 38th parallel surprise attack which was know as the KOREAN July 27 that year, president Truman ordered troops stationed in Japan and through waters to support the South Korean.

September to October

September 1950 - October 1950

UN troops under MacArthur's moved north from Pusan. This drives the attack the North Koreans out of South Korean

MacArthur's counterattack

September 15,1950 - January 1951

MacArthur troops made a surprise amphibious landing behind enemy lines at Inchon, on korea's west coast

November to January

November 1950 - October 1951

UN troops had to retreat across the 38th parallel.

Settling for Stalemate

June 23,1951 - July 1953

MacArthur and Soviet Union signed an armistice ending the war.
