King Charles II issues a Charter to Prince Rupert and “the Company of Adventurers of England trading into Hudson Bay”. This created Rupert’s land, this land has all of the rivers that flow into Hudson’s Bay.

During this war the York Factory is taken by the French and held under their control for 16 years. This reduced the supply of furs that went to London. Later in 1713, the trading post was returned as declared in the Treaty of Utrecht.

Thanadelthur a Dene Woman travels to York Factory where she meets Chief Factor James Knight. Thanadelthur, William Stuart and Cree representatives then negotiate a peace treaty with the Dene. The peace treaty then leads to the trade in Fort Prince, which is now Manitoba.

As a result of the war there is reduces demand for furs in Europe.

In 1768, HBC started to decrease in profits because of the Montreal pedlars, sometimes called North West Company, called pedlars because they are not an organised company. This group of pedlars prefer to operate in smaller group as they do nit say for a long period of time.

In order to save expenses and increase profit they decided to merge. George Simpson becomes a powerful leader within the company and establishes new operations to expand their profits.

1867 is when the negotiations started between HBC and Canada regarding the transfer of land. Before the land agreement was completed Nova Scotia and New Brunswick join Ontario and Quebec to form the Dominion of Canada.

In 1880, was the first sale of the land that belonged to the HBC a total of 640 acres were sold. HBC main source of revenue was from the sale of land for 50 years.

HBC produces the first mail catalogue in 1881 because they were only reaching the 31 percent that lived in the cities. Therefore in order to gain more customers they produced the mail order catalogue. This carries on to other companies and produces the idea for completion through advertisements.

In 1930, Maud Watt traveled to Quebec City to obtain the government’s approval for a beaver preserve to recover from the extensive hunting. In 1933, Maud Watt asked HBC to run the operation of the Rupert House beaver preserve. HBC then went on to expand the land and in 1951, they had over 72,200 miles.
