1910 is most famous for the Revolution of 1910. The hope for a revolution began when Diaz, who had been in power for years, faced a competitor for the election. Madero gained a lot of support and opposed Diaz. Diaz responded by imprisoning Madero. When Diaz won in a rigged election, Madero escaped to Texas and called for the Mexicans to revolt. Nobody budged, so Madero paid the peasant guerillas to aid him. Emiliano Zapata assisted Madero with an army of 5,000 and by the next year, they defeated Mexico's army.
