In September of 1939 Hitler invaded Poland from the west and started his conquest of Europe. A little later on Russia began their invasion of eastern Poland until the two countries had taken over all of Poland.

The battle of Normandy or D-day was a gruesome push by the allied forces to liberate western Europe from Nazi Germany. The beaches stretched over 50 miles and were heavily fortified by German defenses.
May 8 1945
V-E day means Victory in Europe Day. This celebrates the day that Hitler had died and the German military leaders signed surrender contracts.
August 6 1945
An f-29 U.S. bomber dropped the first atomic bomb on two major Japanese cities. The bombs killed over 120,000 people and destroyed 90 percent of the cities.
August 14, 1945
The day that Japan unconditionally surrendered to the allied forces and marked the end of WWII effectively.
