On march 4th 1857, a black man, named Dred Scott sued his wealthy owner John F. A. Sanford. In 1863 Scott Emerson ( dred scotts owner) was ordered by the military to go north for the war. A while after in the north Emerson was then ordered to go back down south. Dried Scott had gotten married while in the north so, Emerson decided to go back by himself and left Scott in the north. After a while Dred Scott went back south to be with Emerson. Once he was back with Emerson, Emerson started to treat Scott like a slave again. This is when Scott sued Emerson for his freedom that he already thought he had, but he lost. Also resulting from this case was the idea that slaves were not concidered to be real American people, also the Missouri compromise was overturned.
