The Missouri Compromise was an agreement that said that any states above the line latitude 30*36 was free while the states below were slave. The Missouri compromise was a plan to keep all southern and northern states equal. It did lead to many problems in the future such as the Kansas-Nebraska act and John Brown raid, but it seemed like a good idea to calm the states disagreements at the time.
North: They supported this act because it meant to keep all states even
South: They also supported because it kept all the states equal

They invited the state of Texas to the Union as the 28th state. Texas had been part of Mexico and then broke off for independence, but because of the annexation of Texas, the Mexican-american war. Southerners: The south supported the annexation of Texas because it added a slave state keeping slave states and non slave states equal.
Northerners: They opposed the annexation because they believed that the annexation of one more slave state would make an uneasy balance of senate in favor of the slave states. This made the war with Mexico.

Compromise of 1850 - A series of laws that set the conflict of slavery straight. One of the agreements was to settle the issue of slavery in land received from Mexico as a result of the Mexican war. Although the compromise was to keep things straight between the north and south, there was still conflict after a while. Northerner: agreed to this because 4 started California as a free state. Southerner: They did agree because this gave southerns strong laws which helped them recover runaway slaves so they supported.

Uncle Tom Cabin is a novel about a slave who saved a young girls life while being transported on a boat. The young girl's father was very thankful and bought Tom as a slave. Soon the young girl got very sick and on the edge of death. When she dies, the father lets all the slaves free and Tom got a new owner who then beats him to death. The story shows how the slaves can be good people in the inside and are treated very harshly.
North- The northerners agreed with the idea of this book and saw it as a good lesson. They thought the idea of slavery was wrong
South- The South objected the idea of the book because they saw slavery as economy.

The Kansas-Nebraska act was an act that let Kansas and Nebraska choose whether or not they wanted to be a slave state. This lead to many arguments because it opposed the Missouri compromise that said all states above the latitude 36*30 was a free state. People all around rushed into the state hoping their vote on anti-slavery or pro-slavery would win. This lead to many acts such as Bleeding Kansas, and the raid of John Brown.
Southerners opinion: Southerns opposed of this act because they thought that they were going to lose control of Kansas which they wished to have
Northerners opinion: Northerners opposed this act as well because they thought the state should be theirs due to the Missouri Compromise.

Dred Scott was a slave that fought for his rights when he saw that things weren't right. He slave owner had moved areas from a slave state into a free territory, which Dred Scott became free man. Soon, his slave owner wanted him back when he moved back to a slave state. Dred wanted to sue his owner since he was free in that area and his owner couldn't have him back. The court then agreed with the owner saying that Dred Scott couldn't be a citizen, resulting in him have no control over his rights. Although Scott had many valid points on his claim, they denied all of it and this lead to tensions between the states.
North: They disagreed with the treatment of Dred Scott and believed he should be a free man
South: They agreed with the treatment of Dred Scott and saw it as very reasonable.

John Brown objected slavery and was fully against people who supported it. Due to many slaves actions, the extreme abolitionist attacked Harper's Ferry. He retrieved slaves and helped them find guns to protect themselves. He completely supported anti-slavery and wanted to help the slaves be free, so he made a raid with the slaves and killed everyone on Harper's Ferry, young and old.
Southerners point of veiw: They viewed this as a terrible event, for they were pro-slavery. They supported slavery and the actions of slavery. They were against what John Brown commited.
Northeners: They believed that John Brown did a good thing for them and stood up for a bad cause.

In the 1860, United States presidential election was the 19th presidential election. It was on Tuesday, November 6, 1860. There was many resulting problems because of this election, resulting in the Civil War. Southerners objected because Abraham supported anti-slavery which the southerners depended on and Northerners approved because they supported anti-slavery as well.

S.C. General Assembly called for a "Convention of the People of South Carolina" to consider secession. South Carolina became the first slave state in the south to declare that it had seceded from the United States.
Northeners: They objected to this idea because South
supported pro-slavery and they were disconnected from the U.S. because they wanted their own laws and ways when Lincoln became president.
Southerners: Supported because they were ready to leave Lincoln's support on anti-slavery and secede from U.S to be free to do slavery.
