The missouri compromise was a comprimise between the North and South that admitted Missouri as a slave state and Maine as a free state, therefore keeping the balance.
Northerners were fine with this ordeal because it kept the balance between slave and free states.
Southerners were ticked off that they couldn't have more slave states than the north had free, but were fine with getting another slave state.

The Texas annexation was the 1845 annexation of the Republic of Texas into the United States of America, which was admitted to the Union as the 28th state on December 29, 1845. The Republic of Texas declared independence from the Republic of Mexico on March 2, 1836.
Northerners opposed annexation because they feared that annexation of more slave territory would tip the uneasy balance of the Senate in favor of slave states---and prompt war with Mexico
Southerners wanted to annex Texas to the United States because they sought to extend slavery, and tip the balance in slave and free states.

The Compromise of 1850 were five bills passed by the United States Congress in September 1850 that rid political confrontation between slave and free states on the status of territories acquired in the Mexican–American War.
The north agreed with the compromise because it equalized the balance between slave and free states.
the south viewed this as a large win because of the fugitive slave act, an act that made it illegal to let runaway slaves escape in the north.

Uncle Tom's Cabin, is an anti-slavery novel by American author Harriet Beecher Stowe. Published in 1852, the novel had a major effect on attitudes toward African Americans and slavery in the U.S. and is said to have "helped lay the groundwork for the Civil War".
Northerners were ecstatic with this because it helped push their anti slavery agends.
Southerners were livid with this as it disproved slavery being good for slaves.

The Kansas-Nebraska Act was passed by the U.S. Congress on May 30, 1854. It allowed people in the territories of Kansas and Nebraska to decide for themselves whether or not to allow slavery within their borders. The Act served to repeal the Missouri Compromise of 1820 which prohibited slavery north of latitude 36°30´.
Northerners disliked the Kansas-Nebraska Act because it gave people the chance to turn what was already a free state into a slave state.

The Dred Scott decision was the Supreme Court's ruling on March 6, 1857, that having lived in a free state and territory did not entitle a slave, Dred Scott, to his freedom. In essence, the decision argued that as a slave Scott was not a citizen and could not sue in a federal court.
Northerners were livid with this, as the ruling of the case meant that all black citizens were not acutally citizens.
Southerners were happy anput this, as it meant that lack people couldn't sue, meaning that slave owners copuld get away with more.

John Brown's raid on Harpers Ferry was an 1859 effort by abolitionist John Brown to initiate an armed slave revolt in Southern states by taking over a United States arsenal at Harpers Ferry, Virginia. It has been called the dress rehearsal for the Civil War
Northerners were split on their opinion between wether they were okay with this or not. Some were fine with this as it helped their cause of anti-slavery. The other half of them were disgusted by this act as they were not okay with the death of innocent children and women.
Southerners were livid by this as they felt betrayed by the North(even though they had nothing to do with it) as they thought that the North planned this, and while they didnt, there was rising tension between north and south because of thi.

South Carolina acted first, calling for a convention to secede from the Union. State by state, conventions were held, and the Confederacy was formed. Within three months of Lincoln's election, seven states had seceded from the Union.
Northerners were extremely livid, as leaving the union esentially meant betraying the union, and to no ones suprise the civil war soon started.
Southerners were happy with this outcome, as they finally started to take things into their own hands.
