this act proposed that the Nebraska territory would be divided into two different states, Kansas and Nebraska. Each territory would decide about slavery through popular sovereignty. This bill was passed, proslavery and antislavery forces started to try and control the new territory.
NORTH: They did not like the Kansas Nebraska act because this allowed Kansas and Nebraska to open slavery. The Missouri compromise of 1820 kept this from happening until now.
SOUTH: The south supported the Kansas-Nebraska act because the act aloud Kansas and Nebraska to choose based off popularity if there was slavery or not so the south thought they could get slavery in those states because of granting popular sovereignty.
