This court case involved several disabled students who were being excluded from school in their district. The parents of these children claimed that the District of Columbia was violating their 14th amendment rights. The court ruled in favor of Mills, giving students with disabilities equal protection and the right to a due process.

The Rehabilitation Act prohibits discrimination against people who are disabled. It gave students with disabilities the opportunity for an education without being mistreated or excluded by others.

This court case involved how far school districts were willing to go to provide a FAPE. The court ruled that schools must provide a "basic floor of opportunity" for students with disabilities rather than needing to provide the maximum level of services.

The ADA extended the work of Section 504 in that it prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities. The goal of this act is to protect the civil rights of individuals with disabilities. There are five areas in which this act specifically focuses on. These include employment, public services, public accommodations, telecommunications, and miscellaneous provisions.

In this particular case, Rachel has a moderate intellectual disability, and her parents want her to be in the general education room all day, but the school wouldn't let that happen. However, the court ruled in favor of Rachel's parents due to four factors that were taken into account: the child's social and nonacademic needs, how appropriate each environment is for her, the impact on the general education teacher and her classmates, and the cost of putting her in the general education setting.

The IDEA is a continuation of the Education for all Handicapped Act. However, there were several changes made to the IDEA. Some of these include putting children in the least restrictive environment, providing a FAPE, and early intervention programs.

This case involves a student who was injured in a motorcycle accident and needed several services provided to him in school. The court ruled in favor of Garret, stating that schools must provide nursing services if needed by a student.

The overall goal of NCLB was to level the playing field for those with disabilities. One component of NCLB is AYP, or adequate yearly progress. This means that schools were being tested more to see if students were making progress in their learning.
