Operation Barbarossa was the German invasion of the Soviet Union and a significant part of Germany's purge. This event was very critical as it showed Germany's miscommunication and weakness as German troops failed to defeat the Soviet forces. Hitler feared Stalin from this event as Stalin imposed a threat to Hitler's intentions. Once Stalin launched the counteroffensive against Germany troops, this created a significant setback for Germany's plans to move and conquer. This setback would go on to influence Germany's next steps in the war.
Hitler always wanted to invade Russia and in the summer of 1941 he was ready to invade. Hitler wanted to gain Ukraine to feed the German population. Hitler wanted to make a finishing blow to communism, but in the winter of 1941 Hitler lost his advantage to Russia. Hitler sent his troops into Russia without winter clothing and they suffered the harsh Soviet Russia winters as a result.
