When I was two or three years old my mom started to really push me to read. She would get a bunch of children's books and as she read she would have me explain what she was reading to me. She would also ask me what each word meant and how to pronounce them well. The stories I would pick out as well so then I would be interested in it.

When I turned four years old my parents got me something called the LeapFrog LeapReader. This was a book that talked to you and taught you to read and write and this was actually very fun to me and got me interested in reading and writing. I remember not being so excited to get his on my birthday but I didn’t see it as learning, I saw it as a toy.

When I was six years old my teacher asked us to sing some christmas carols for the classes. I wasn't very good at reading fast or singing. So we started to practice in class and when we began to sing I couldn't keep up so I started just making sounds. The kids next to me began to notice and everyone began to stop but I kept going and everyone began laughing once they heard me just making sounds.

Reading this book when I was seven helped me really enjoy reading as a kid. I found this really interesting and actually fun to read and quite funny actually. When I would have to read for class this is all I would choose because it was almost like watching tv. It made me feel like part of the book and really got my attention while reading.

When I was eight years old my grandma Kathy would have me read a few verses from the bible before dinner. I remember one time me and my brothers were swimming at their home and my grandma brought dinner up to the pool. I got out of the pool and even then she made me read it. That left a kind of bad taste of reading for me. I like reading and like to read the bible, but having to read while wanting to get back in the pool was not very enjoyable.

Time events in middle school were quite annoying to me. All I wanted to do in middle school was play video games or do absolutely anything other than read. My mom would put a timer on the clock and tell me I was forced to read for school. I had to read for exactly 30 minutes each night. Of course me not wanting to do so, I would just sit there and turn the page every two or three minutes.

Around when I was 11 I began doing some types of research papers and starting out I thought it was very difficult. You have to search for all the information and read a lot of articles other databases to find what you are looking for. Trying to figure out what information is most important and what will really grab the reader's attention is quite challenging.

This was one of my most important literacy sponsors. She was very good at getting me to enjoy reading and was very good at teaching me the importance of reading. Growing up she had a rough childhood but still learned to really enjoy reading encouraged us to do the same. She would have us get a book we enjoyed and for an hour and fifteen minutes we would just read.

My junior year of high school I took a business class and we worked on how to write an email. I struggled with using the correct format in order for it to be professional. My teacher was very good at teaching me how to better my format for my emails. She did this by making us email her weekly about our assignments and would email me back what I did wrong.

When I text I usually don't use many commas or anything like that because it is just texting. The bad thing about this is that it translates to my papers. I tend to use many run on sentences and people notice it. When I send texts to people I don't normally talk to or it is professional I try to be more careful and use periods and commas. Many people don't pay attention to their punctuations while texting and I am also guilty of that.
