Fanshen unfolds across China. This is otherwise known as the land reform law which implemented that landlords no longer owned any land and from then on all the land belonged to the state. peasants were then urged to kill all of their landlords as they were believed to be class enemies. More land was given to peasants and they were expected to submit more produce to the state. This is what Mao believed would help bring china up the ladder economically but actually it lead to starvation as there was nothing for peasants to eat.
