Dias was a Portuguese explorer that sailed the mar of war, Saint Christopher. He was asked to find a sea route to India by the king of Portugal. He was returning seemingly unsuccessful when he rounded the southern tip of Africa and anchored at The Cape of Good Hope, which was an important step in finding the trade route to India.

Columbus was a Spanish explorer. He voyaged on the Santa Maria and traveled alongside Pinta and the Nina trying to find a passage to India, founded by the King of Portugal. He believed if he sailed west he would eventually hit China, instead "he discovered America" when he landed in the Bahamas killing many Natives by spreading European viruses.
