Evolution of Education

The first free school is opened in Virginia!

Harvard, the first college (or higher institution in the 1600's) is established in Newtowne, or now Cambridge, Massachusetts!

This act was established to make sure in a colony of 50 households or more, that the children were getting taught an education at home.

Salem College is established as the first ever liberal arts college for women that has a current enrollment of about 1100!

The first American High School is opened!

Now the National Education Association, was formed by 43 teachers in Philadelphia.

This law donated public land to the states so that at least one college could be established for agricultural and mechanical arts.

With the creation of this, it helped to make sure learning was effective in public schools!

Gives more opportunities for land grants that would give extension activities more funding! This includes something like 4-H!
