700 Greeks try to stop Persians at Thermopylae.The 300 Spartans that were there won the war for Greece. They held off the Persians for 2 days while the others prepared to fight.

Persia wanted control the Greek city-states in Anatolia. The Greek city-states revolted against Persia. Athens sent aid to the city-states and that helps them win the war. Persia is then mad at Athens for helping the city-states win.

Persia sent 25,000 men across the Agean Sea to conquer Greece. They landed in Marathon, 26.2 miles away from Athens. Athens surprised Persia and defeated them. 6,000 Persian men died and 200 Athenian men died.

Darius The Great was the ruler of Persia during the 1st Persian War and died of embarrassment after losing the war. His son, Xerxes, was now the new leader of Persia, wanted revenge on Greece. 700 men defended Greece against Persia but Persia broke through them but the other city-states were prepared and Greece defeated Persia.

Athens is positioned near the war and Persia did not have a well trained navy. Persia was unable to navigate and they slowly. Athens used the water to their advantage and defeated Persia. This helped the Greeeks defeat the Persians in the 2nd Persian War.
