Many people didn't like the representative government. The representative government was the British queen at the top of the government and she chose the governor who had the power to say yes or no to the suggestions from people below the governor. This representative government wasn't democratic because the governor had the decision making and also the governor was British so he only thinks about the British people in BNA. Under the the governor the councils were Legislative and Executive councils. The councils were from BNA but they were chosen by the governor, not elected, so they were not democratic. Under the councils there were the Legislative council. Legislative councils were elected by people in BNA so they were kind of democratic. The voters were only British people so overall this government was not democratic.

Joseph Howe was one of the reformers. He was publishing a news paper and he wrote a letter to the citizens. He said that lots of money that was suppos to help poor people were taken by the rich and powerful people. He was very unhappy about the representative government. The government sent a man named Lord Durham to investigate the situation in the BNA

The rebellions in upper Canada knew that the British soldiers were busy so they started attacking the government. Rebels were people who didn't like the government and try to change it by violence. The government organized a Militia. Militia are people who didn't get professional training but they are to be soldiers to protect the government and fight the Rebels.

Durham felt that the British should give the BNA aresponsible government to make the government democratic. The British were surprised when they heard that Durham wanted the British to give responsible government to the BNA, because the British were thinking that Durham was on their own side.

The responsible government was The government that that had the British Monarch on the top and the governor under it. The Monarch had the final decision but they taked advice from the governor. The governor were suggesting British and BNA people's wishes to the British Monarch. Under the governor there were the Legislative council and the executive council. The legislative council were advising the governor the laws. The executive council were chosen by the political party and and suggested the governor. Under the councils there were the legislative assembly. The legislative assembly raised money through taxes and passed laws. The voters were some British people living in the colony. Joseph Howe, Baldwin Robert, and James Bruce was involved. Also Nova Scotia was the first one to achieve the responsible government in BNA. Joseph Howe was elected to the Assembly and he helped create a strong Reform Party. James Boyle Uniackle became the leader of the reform party and won the election.

British agreed about the responsible government in province of canada in 1847, but there were lots of problems with the Canada East and canada West reformers. There were too many opinions so it took a long time to be a responsible. In 1849 Louis Hipployte LaFontaine from Canada East and Baldwin from Canada West created an Assembly and it became the Responsible government.

In Prince Edward Island Lots of people wanted to make have responsible government. The farmers wanted the laws to change because farmers wanted to buy more land. However there were conflicts about Religion and Heritage. George Coles and Edward Whelan worked hard for refoming and the members of the assembly asked for the responsible government but they were refused. Eventually Britain gave up and Prince Edward Island became responsible government.

The Key issues were who was going to be the leader of New Brunswick and how the money is going to be spend. However most opinions became together and created an Assembly. Lemuel Allan Wilmot and Charles Fisher responsible made government happen and in 1854 the Britain agreed to change the government to responsible government.

The fight for responsible government in Newfoundland happened because their opinions were different and became the strongest when Roman Catholic and Methodist politicians decided to join together to fight for reform to the government. Newfoundland finally got responsible government.
