The child began to write poetry in his sixteenth year. His first love song «Handsome Nell» was dedicated to the girl who helped him in the harvest fields

The first poem “The Cotter’s Saturday Night” was published.
600 copies of Poems Chiefly in the Scottish Dialect were printed in Kilmarnock. Our poetic genius gained popularity.

The poet started travelling around Scotland and England. This tour inspired him to write new glorious poems.

He married Jean Armour, his Bonnie Jean. The marriage ended in divorce. Soon he met Marry Campbell but suddenly she died. A year later the poet got a position as a tax collector but the work was a hard one for him. His life was full of sadness.
Nevertheless, he wrote a lot.

The greatest poet of Scotland died in a poor old house in Dumfries. The poet was buried there, mourned by all honest people of his country. He was only 37 years old.

Whenever we speak of Scotland, the name of Scotland’s Bard is always there, as the ever living, never –dying symbol of that country. People all over the world celebrated this event so did we. We adore his poetry.
