British Parliament get rid of the slave trade.

Dutch defeated the Zulus, creating two Dutch republics.

1834

First Boer War started when the Boers (Dutch) rebelled against the British.

1880

Transvaal Republic (a Dutch republic) declared independence from Britain.

Britain signed a peace treaty and gave Transvaal Republic independence.

1881

14 European countries met to divide Africa.

1884 - 1885

Britain declared Southern Africa areas to be within their sphere of influence

1891

Second Boer war started with the Transvaal Republic declaring war on Britain.

1899

Boers surrendered, creating the South Africa union in British Empire.

1902

Consequences of Apartheid still exist in South Africa--especially racism.

Beginning of Apartheid

Segregation began occuring throughout South Africa.

1910 - 1948

Apartheid started.

1948 - 1994

Apartheid ends.

President Mandela abolished the Apartheid.
