Eastern Woodland Indians

800 B.C. - 800 A.D.

The eastern woodland Indians consisted of man Indian tribes that lived in the eastern part of the United States and Canada. They lived from the Atlantic to the Mississippi River. They lived near water for transportation purposes.

Triangle slave trade

1450 - 1800

THe route was from Europe to Africa to the colonies. They traded goods and slaves to bring to the colonies, Europe, and Africa.


1500 - 1800

To increase wealth by controlling trade and imposing government regulations. It caused many wars in Europe.

San Miguel de Gualdape

1526 - 1527

It was the first European settlement in the United States territory. It was created by a spainard named Lucas Vazquez de Ayllon. It only lasted three months until it was abandoned.

Thirteen English Colonies

1607 - 1733

They were the colonies on the Eastern shore of North America. Each colony developed its own self government.

proprietary colony

1663 - 1729

different groups were chosen by british crown that were grantd rights. The colony was given to a proprietor to govern.

Royal colony

1679 - 1790

A colony governed directly by the crown through a governor and council appointed by it. New Hampshire was the first and it ended when Rhode Island became a state.

Rice and indigo trade

1680 - 1730

They were one of the main crops in South Carolina that helped slavery. They were a cash crop.

Cotton trade

1700 - 1900

it was a time when different countries traded cotton for other goods. Cotton was a main export.

Yemassee War

1715 - 1717

It was a war between Native americans and british settlers in South Carolina.

Stono Rebellion

September 9, 1739

It was the biggest slave uprising in British colonies before the revolutionary war. The uprising was in South Carolina.

Plantation Systems

1750 - 1865

It was The division of the land into smaller units under private ownership.

french and Indian War

1756 - 1763

The British wanted to take over French land in North America and wanted to take over the fur trade in the French held territory.

Cherokee War

1759 - 1761

War between the cherokee tribes and the British.

sugar act


British passed the sugar act to put taxes on sugar and other important products to make more money.

Regulator Movement

1765 - 1771

When North and south carolina tried to go against e colonies. It was not successful.

Sons Of Liberty

1765 - 1783

A group of American patriots protecting the rights of the colonist.

Tea Act


the british parliment put taxes on tea. The colonist were no happy. It lead to the Boston tea party.

Revolutionary War

1775 - 1783

It was the war where The 13 colonies were fighting for their freedom from Great Britain

South Carolina Constitution of 1776

March 26, 1776

It is the constitution of South Carolina stating all of the laws and rights.

Declaration of Independence

July 4, 1776

it was a document letting the British know why they were leavng them.

Battle of Camden

August 16, 1780

It was a major win for the British in the Revolutionary war.

Battle of Kings Mountain

October 7, 1780

It was a battle in the American Revolution. The Americans won the Battle.

Battle of Cowpens

January 17, 1781

It was the turning point of the American revolution. The americans won.

Articles of Confederation

March 1, 1781

They were the basis rules for the country.

Battle of Eutaw Springs

september 8, 1781

It was a battle in the American Revolution. It was one of the bloodiest in the war. The Americans won.

3/5 compromise


It was an agreement between the southern and Northern states. it said that slaves were only 3/5 of a person.

Commerce Compromise


when The Constitution allows the federal government to tax imports but not exports.

Great Compromise

Delegates to the Constitutional Convention came from different backgrounds and held different political views

It was the basic rules of the country. It was suppose to address all the problems in the country.

Cotton Gin


It was a machine made by Eli whitney. It seperated cotton fibers from the seed quickly.

it was a document that said the rights of slaves and the right of the masters.

Embargo Act


It didn't let American ship import goods to places or go anywhere.

War of 1812

1812 - 1814

it was the war between America and Britain. The US declared war because of trade restrictions brought about by Britain's on going war with France.

William T. Sherman

February 8, 1820 - February 14, 1891

He was a union general and was recognized for is military strategies. He lead a march through the southern states burning many towns.

Denmark Vesey Plot


It was a plot for the slaves to revol against their masters. The plan did not succeed. The people involved in it were hung.

Abolitionist movement

1830 - 1870

They attempted to achieve immediate emancipation of all slaves and the ending of racial segregation and discrimination.

Nullification Controversy

1832 - 1833

It was a controversy between Andrew Jackson and John C. Calhoun. It was over states rights.

Robert Smalls

April 5, 1839 - February 23, 1915

He was a slave until he freed himself and other people by taking over a confederate ship.

Dred Scott Decision

1847 - 1857

he went to court becasue his master and him moved to a frre states,but he wasn't free and he wanted to.

it opened new land for settlement and saw if they would allow slavery their.

Election of 1860


It caused the outbreak of the civil war. They elected Lincoln and he was against slavery and everyone was upset.

They were southerners who wanted to succeed from the north.The secession of 11 states from the North.

Civil War

1861 - 1865

War between the north and south about slavery. The north did't want slavery and the south did. The North won.

Creation of the Confederate States of America

1861 - 1865

they declared secession from the North because they wanted slavey.

Fort Sumter

April 12, 1861 - April 14, 1861

This was the first battle of the civil war. The fort is in Charleston Harbor.

Port Royal

November 7, 1861

It was a major union victory early on in the civil war. The battle was located in the south.

Lincoln's assassination

April 14, 1865

Lincoln was in a theater then a man shot him in the head. The man who assassinated him was John Wilkes Booth. He was who in the head at fords theater. The civil war was coming to an end.
