Chinese dynasties

Dynasties are Shang, Zhou, Qin, Han, Sui, Tang. Sung, Yuan, Ming, Qing, Mao Zedong and Deng Ziaopeng

Shang Dynasty

1700 B.C. - 1027 B.C.

The first contribution they made was the development of the writing system as showed on Chinese inscriptions in tortoise shells and bones.

The second contribution the Shang made was the use of bronze metallurgy used to make ceremonial bronze vessels.

Under Shang rule priest studied the sky and with their observations created the first accurate calendar.

Zhou Dynasty

1027 B.C. - 221 B.C.

The first contribution of the Zhou was that they created a feudal system that was an improvement of the tribal system they had before.(chinavoc)

The Zhou brought the idea of the mandate of heaven to china which gave an explanation of why new dynasties come. (WC book pg. 329)

Under Zhou rule the three Chinese school of thoughts Confucianism created by Confucius, Daoism created by Lao zi and Legalism with their most famous writer being Han Feizi.( WC book pg 330-332)

Qin Dynasty

221 B.C. - 210 B.C.

The First contribution of the Qin Dynasty was unifying china by imposing a single law code,uniform standards for weight and measures, and currency regulations.(WC book pg. 337)

The second contribution is creating th great wall of china which protected the empire from nomads from the north. (WC book pg. 337)

The last contribution is is standardizing the language and writing of china because languages varied from area to area.(mnsu)

Han Dynasty

206 B.C. - 220 A.D.

Under HAn rule chinas borders expanded greatly getting as far to vietnam and even up to korea. (mnsu)

The Han's second contribution was creating a civil service system that made exams to people to see if they could work as officials. (WC Book Pg.338)

Under han rule medicine flourished and colleges did too. Doctors startes to time a patient's pulse to diagnose illnesses.

Sui Dynasty

580 A.D. - 618 A.D.

The sui united china once again after their separation. The campaign was led by Yang chien.(mnsu)

They improved internal administration that was evident because of the building of granaries near the capital, the fortification of the great wall and the reconstruction of two capitals.(mnsu)

They expanded their empire to the south with military campaings.(mnsu)

Tang Dynasty

618 A.D. - 907 A.D.

The tang expanded the administrative system that included 4 main departments: Departments of state affairs, Imperial Chancellery, Imperial Grand Secretariat, and an council of state judicially.(mnsu)

The land distribution program was another contribution that helped agriculturally and economically. It consisted in giving life plots of land to peasants. ( mnsu)

They created a system of taxation in which china became richer specially in the north (mnsu)

Sung Dynasty

Their first contribution was the technology advances hat made possible to them to make ships that could hold 500 men and didn't need man power. (mnsu)

They decided not to fight but to pay tributes to khitans so they didn't had to maintain a huge army that would cost much more(mnsu)

Education's popularity was increasing because their advances in printing which means th population is more educated (mnsu)

Yuan Dynasty

They had an efficient transporting system, they built roads to every province and messengers carried news through the country. (WC Book pg.341)

They made china be known in the world by letting Marco polo work as an official which led to their culture being spread. (WC Book pg.341)

Gave china a great military power which made them expand more(mnsu)

Ming Dynasty

1368 A.D. - 1644 A.D.

They built and repaired most of the great wall which means they have better protection.(mnsu)

Another contribution would be the novel. They would write novel in everyday language. some of these novels we still read today.(mnsu)

They maintained a strong military and created a militant class that were high rank in society so they could keep Mongols away. (mnsu)

Qing Dynasty

During Qing Dynasty the borders of china were expanded to their grease extent ever(msnu)

They were more successful than the Mongols in controlling china in a more peaceful way without killing much people but playing with minds.

They expanded Chinese culture even farther making the Chinese happy.

Republic of China

1966 A.D. - 1976 A.D.

He promoted programs to make china self sufficient by making more food and therefore finishing with famine.

He built schools and extended basic health care services which educated people and maintained them healthier.

Promoted discipline among his people making his country safer and better educated.

After Mao

Deng Ziao Peng

1976 A.D. - 1997 A.D.

Deng brought foreign investment which made china’s economy stronger.

Maintained his people controlled and made them know he wasn’t going to go
