The Boston Massacre

March 1770

The Battle of Saratoga

September 1777 - October 1777

-A main turning point
-The patriots burned bridges and knocked down trees, to block the paths.
-Burgoyne surrendered on October 17th, 1777 from lack of food and help.

The Battle of Yorktown

October 9, 1781 - October 19, 1781

-Cornwallis and a French General decided to join forces.
-To prevent the British from escaping the French warships blocked any help or escape by sea.
-Cornwallis sends a message to his commander for help.
-no assistance came, so Cornwallis surrendered.
-The British no longer had the will to continue the war
-The Americans had won their independence even though they had to sign the peace treaty with the British.

XYZ Affair

1799

-Causes the Alien and Sedition Act
-The XYZ affairs went to meet with the French but the French wanted a bribe, and then the Americans were very embarrassed.

Revolutions/Wars

The beginning of the French and Indian War

1754 - 1763

The French originally come to the "new world" to trade, mainly furs, and to live among the native people, and there are not many colonists. Then the British come to settle and there are many colonists. Britain and France had a long history of problems, they were fighting on and off since 1066.
