Minoan civilization on Crete was wiped out due to massive earthquakes and large amounts of ash that fell on the island from the volcano. The Mycenaean, the Greeks of the mainland, invaded Crete around 1450 BC

Trojan War

Approx. 1200 BC - 1184 BC

Trojan War between the Greeks and Trojans, lasting 10 years. It started with Paris who kidnapped Helen, wife of King Menelaus of Sparta. When the Trojans refused to return her, the Greeks formed an army, led by Agamemnon, including Achilles, Odysseus which then started the war.

Approx. 1100 BCE - Approx. 1000 BCE

The Dorian's conquered the Minoans and Mycenaean civilizations, then The Dark Age emerged.

Sparta conquest of Messian Civilization

Approx. 743 BC - Approx. 724 BC

The war started over the Spartan desire for the Messians land. The long battle was for the Spartans to win, they already had an established military, even though they were outnumbered by the Messians.

Conquest of Egypt/Persia

525 BC - 522 BC

The Muslims won that battle. Hellenistic culture continued to thrive in Egypt well after the Muslim conquest.

Battle of Marathon

Approx. 490 BC

the war was fought between the citizens of Athens. the Persian navy sailed down the coast of Greece and landed at the bay of Marathon, Athens army ten trapped them in the plains around the bay.

Battles of Thermopylae, Salamis, Plataea

Approx. 480 BC - 480 BC

The Greeks won all the battles. The battle of Thermopylae was cause by the Marathon war 10 years earlier.

Peloponessian War (2nd) - Athens v Sparta

Approx. 431 BC - Approx. 404 BC

the cause is from democratic reforms of Cleisthenes, which Sparta always opposed. The Spartans won

Theben war

Approx. 378 BC - Approx. 362 BC

Chabrias won, the cause is when Epaminondas caused a drastic break with Sparta when he insisted on signing not for the Thebans alone, but for all the Boeotian.

Battle of chaeronea

Approx. 339 BCE - Approx. 338 BC

Philip the ll led his team to victory, the cause was that Athens wanted to steal their food supply
