Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior, better known as Neymar Jr. or Neymar (Mogi das Cruzes, February 5, 1992), is a Brazilian footballer who plays the leading edge. Currently defends Paris Saint-Germain and the Brazilian National Team.

Son of the mechanic Neymar da Silva Santos (from whom he inherited the name) and Nadine Santos, Neymar was born in the city of Mogi das Cruzes, in the São Paulo Metropolitan Region, on February 5, 1992, but still very young moved to São Vicente and then to Santos. In 2003, at the age of 11, he reached Santos's base categories, from where he did not leave until becoming a professional. When Neymar still did not earn enough to support his family, he, his father, his mother and his sister lived in a room in their grandmother's house, on the outskirts of São Vicente. With the money and already predicting the son's success, the family bought their first property, an apartment next to Vila Belmiro. As the adolescent grew, the standard of living in the family improved. At age 15, Neymar earned 10,000 reais per month. At 16, 25 thousand. At 17, when he became a starter in Santos' main team, the first sponsors came. Neymar is evangelical, and goes with his family to the Baptist Church.

Neymar began his career in the base categories of Portuguese Santista in 1998, being transferred to Santos in 2003, and after six years, was promoted to the main cast. In the year that made his debut with the professional team, Neymar was chosen as the biggest revelation of the Paulista Championship. The following year he became the top scorer of the Brazil Cup with eleven goals, and the best player of the Paulista Championship, finishing the season with forty-two goals in sixty games. At the age of nineteen, Neymar won the 2011 South American Footballer of the Year Award after finishing in third place in the previous edition. In 2011, he competed for the World Player of the Year award, where he finished tenth; in the same event, received the worldwide acclaim for conquering the Puskás Award of Goal of the Year, marked in the defeat of Santos for Flamengo in a match of the Brazilian Championship.

Neymar was the main highlight of the Libertadores conquest for Santos, a triumph that led him to participate in the Club World Cup, where he was defeated in the final 4-0 by Barcelona. After winning the Cup Winners' Cup of 2012, Neymar began receiving proposals from the same Barcelona, with whom he signed a contract in a controversial agreement involving club president Sandro Rosell. In his first year in the team, Neymar won the Spanish Super Cup, but world recognition and acclaim as one of the greatest players in the world occurred in the 2014-15 season, with the triumph of the Spanish Championship, the King's Cup and the League of UEFA Champions League. In Barcelona, Neymar was part of the MSN trio, formed alongside players Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez, described by journalists as the best attack in recent years in world football.

At the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Neymar were the highlight of the Seleção, with four goals, until suffering a spinal injury in the quarter-finals against the Colombian National Team, which caused him to leave the team at remainder of the tournament. Despite this, he received the Bronze Boot as the third-highest scorer of the event, and was part of the team described as "dream team" with the eleven best players in the competition. With 43 goals in 62 games, Neymar became the fifth highest scorer in the history of the Seleção, behind only Pele, Ronaldo, Romario and Zico.

Began 2017 receiving several criticisms due to a very erratic performance in the first leg of the semi-final of the King's Cup against Atletico Madrid on 1 February. He was redeemed with a brilliant performance three days later in the victory over Athletic Bilbao by the Spanish Championship. On February 12 Neymar scored a goal in the defeat on Deportivo Alavés in a match valid for the Spanish Championship. With this goal, the 11 shirt overcame the idol Ronaldinho Gaúcho and reached the 95-goal mark for the club becoming the third Brazilian to score more goals for the Catalan club, behind only Rivaldo and Evaristo.Se stood out in the win over Sporting de Gijón who put Barça in the lead of La Liga. In that game the jersey 11 scored a beautiful goal in a free kick and reached the mark of 100 goals for the club. Also in this match gave assists to Luis Suárez and Lionel Messi. In the next match on 4 March against Celta de Vigo, the 11 shirt returned to stand out and scored a beautiful goal by coverage, helping the Catalan team to thrash 5-0. For the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League 2016-17 Neymar was one of the great highlights of the victory that qualified Barcelona for the quarterfinals in what was considered a miracle. Despite their defeat in the first leg at Paris Saint Germain, Barça managed to turn the aggregate score by winning the second game at the Camp Nou with two goals from the 11th shirt, one off and another penalty.
