My Extended Project (EPQ) Summer Progress

Events

Mindmap EPQ Ideas

June 14, 2017 - July 12, 2017

Thinking of potential questions to explore and in which manner I will complete the project

Title Verification

July 12, 2017 - July 13, 2017

Finishing touches on question title and ensuring that it is suitable with subject teacher and EPQ mentor.

Initial Skills Audit

July 13, 2017 - July 15, 2017

Completing my initial skills audit and evaluating what were my assets and which I needed to build and improve upon, and how this would be done.

Initial Research and gathering suitable sources

July 16, 2017 - July 20, 2017

Making a potential 'Summer Reading List' and sourcing scientifically appropriate books and articles that were relevant to my question.

Conducting Research (Books and Documentaries)

July 17, 2017 - September 8, 2017

Reading and highlighting several sources of information that would prove critical to my understanding surrounding my chosen topic. They included:
- 'A Case For Mars' by Dr Robert Zubrin
- 'Fundamental of Astrodynamics' by Roger R. Bate, Donald D. Mueller and Jerry E. White
- 'Mankind Beyond Earth' by Claude A. Piantadosi

I also watched the 'Mars' miniseries filmed and produced by National Geographic

Useful information will be recorded using highlighters and post-it page markers, and will be colour coded in correspondence to the section of my dissertation.

Project Progression Report

August 16, 2017 - August 17, 2017

Completed initial section of the 'Project Progression Record' that will enable me to ensure that I understand which skills I wish to evolve and develop, in addition to which specific factors within planning i'll need to pay attention to

Conducting Research (Articles and Journals)

August 25, 2017 - September 8, 2017

Sourced several scientific articles and journals that would further broaden my knowledge surrounding the topic, but would also pay attention to specific sections of my Extended Project, bringing a new depth to the research.

Useful information will be recorded using highlighters and post-it page markers, and will be colour coded in correspondence to the section of my dissertation.

Gathering sources and completing a Bibliography

August 28, 2017 - September 8, 2017

Correctly cite all sources of information that has influenced or has been used in my EPQ, so that during my dissertation they are easily accessible and I can build upon my bibliography over time.

Conducting Research (Books and Documentaries)

Completed 'A Case For Mars' by Dr Robert Zubrin

July 17, 2017 - August 8, 2017

It would benefit my investigation as it would develop my understanding surrounding advanced and current propulsion methods and what technology and systems are required to sustain life on mars or a similar exoplanet within our galaxy. It would help to answer and stimulate ideas within myself the question; 'Why should we go to Mars?'.
