Yalta Conference

1945 - January 8, 1945

The conference was to shape a post-war peace that represented a plan to give self-determination to the liberated peoples of post-Nazi Europe.

Trinity-A-Bomb

07/16/1945

This was the first test done by the US to detonate an Atomic Bomb using plutonium. The event marked a milestone in ordinate science.

Postdam Conference

07/18/1945

Among the last war time meeting between the big 3 allies. Held in postdam which was a historic suburb of berlin, the Unites States, the Soviet Union, and Great Britain, discussed the implementation of agreements reached at Yalta.

A-Bomb dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima

08/09/1945

In an attempt to end World War II, Truman decided to drop the Atomic Bomb on the Japanese cities on August 6th 1945. Killing at least 70,000 people and 10,000 more from radiation poisoning.

Winston Churchill's "Iron Curtain" Speech

03/05/1946

President Churchill and Truman turned up in Westminster college in Fulton, Missouri. It was a speech delivered by Winston Churchill first phrased the term Iron Curtain which described the post-war boundaries in Europe with the self governing nations of the west.

Truman Doctrine

03/12/1947

President Truman delivered a speech before congress on March 12, 1947. Results of this speech declared a reorientation of US foreign policy.

Development/implementation of the Marshall Plan

1948

The plan caused the Cold War to become a significant milestone in the countries that it involved. The Marshall plan attempted to reduce the communist party influence in western Europe, which put the Soviet Union at odds with the USA after the Truman Doctrine.

Berlin Blockade

06/24/1948 - 05/12/1949

The Berlin Blockade began when the Soviet Union decided to block railway and road access to the three western powers. The US, the UK, and the French to the western sections of berlin.

NATO

1949 - 1952

NATO was created in 1949 by the united states, Canada and several other western European nations. Provided security for all NATO countries.

Chinese revolution

10/1/1949

Chinese communist leader Mao ZeDong, Declared the creation of the Peoples Republic of China (PRC). This served to end the civil war that was going on between the CCP and the KNT.

Korean War

06/1950 - 07/1953

Conflict started when North Korea and the Soviet Union invaded South Korea. The US and the United Nation forces aided the south while china and the Soviet Union backed the North Koreans.

Evacuation of Hungnam

12/21/1950

It was the evacuation of US forces and Korean refugees. Almost 100,000 civilians, Materials and Troops were evacuated using merchant ships out of Hungnam city.

US Detonation of Hydrogen Bomb

11/01/1952

Tested on November 1st, 1952. The US detonated a thermonuclear bomb, 1,000 times greater than the conventional Atomic weapons. This sparked the race for Arms against Russia.

Death of Joseph Stalin

1953

His life has left a legacy of Death, purges, and terror across post-war USSR. He was remembered as the man who saved his country from Nazi domination.

Creation of SEATO

09/1954

The purpose of the organization was to prevent communism from spreading throughout the region.

Creation of Warsaw Pact

05/14/1955

A political and military alliance established on May 14, 1955 between the Soviet Union and several Eastern European countries.

Launch of sputnik

10/4/1957

The launched of the satellite shocked the world starting the space race. It gave them the title of putting the first man-made object into earths orbit.

Creation of NASA

7/29/1958

Created to oppose Russia in the space race. Also created to explore space and pursue engineering marvels in aeronautics.

Vietnam War

1959 - 1975

Known as the second Indochina war, this war was fought by South Vietnam against North Vietnam. Many battles were fought by guerilla warfare

The U.S. deployed 15 Jupiter IRBMs

1961

During the Arms race, America pushed its nuclear arsenal with more advanced technology capable of intercontinental travel.

Russia sends Cosmonaut to space

4/12/1961

Russian astronaut Yuri Gagarin became the first human to be launched into Earth orbit on the Vostok 1 rocket. Seen by the world, America attempted to put one of their men into space for 5 rotations around Earth.

Bay of Pigs Crisis

04/17/1961

The invasion was conducted by John F. Kennedy to arm 1,400 Cuban exiles to push and destroy Fidel Castro's air force. The plan failed because Castro knew about the invasion and moved the planes to a safer location. All the exiles were taken into Cuban custody, or killed.

Berlin Wall Built

08/13/1961

The wall was erected in 1961 to ideally divide Germany to prevent East Germans from fleeing into democratic West Germany.

John F. Kenny Moon Speech

10/12/1962

A famous speech explaining nothing about war, but about the future for the human race to reach for higher goals. He wanted to launch a man from Earth and send him to the moon and come back.

Cuban Missile Crisis

10/19/1962

The one time when the two super powers came close to nuclear warfare. The missile crisis was unique in many way featuring calculations and miscalculations of imminent strike against other countries.
