First courses offered


The first courses offered through the Julian Blackburn College (JBC) at Trent University were located at Eastdale Collegiate in Oshawa, Ontario.

Senate Approves the Expansion of courses offered to part-time student in Oshawa


Trent University classes offered at the Durham College campus


Evening and weekend courses were offered to students.

Trent's presence in Oshawa grows to 55 course offerings


Formation of DATE


In 1989, a formal partnership amongst Trent University, Durham College, Ryerson Polytechnic, and York University's Atkinson College was formed and named DATE (Durham Alliance for Training Education.
The aim of DATE was to increase the range of postsecondary educational opportunities available to adults in the Durham region.
DATE evolved into the Durham University Centre (DUC) in 1996.

Trent students enrolled full-time in evening classes at the Oshawa Durham campus.


This marks the beginning of full-time university programming in Durham

Trent begins adding daytime courses to its evening offerings


Full time Programs offered


In the fall of 1996, Trent University offered full time programs at the Durham College campus (Simcoe building) in eight areas of study; English, History, Anthropology, Sociology, Cultural studies, and Environmental Resources Studies.

MTCU grant created for Trent University Oshawa


The Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities created a special purpose grant for university level programs/degrees to be offered at Durham College, under the umbrella of the University Centre of Durham (UCD).
This allowed for both Trent University and York University to offer full-time academic programs during the day and evening.

Trent in Oshawa Continues to Grow


With over 25 summer courses and 95 full or half-courses in the fall/winter.

Ontario government announces opening of University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT)

Memorandum of Understanding


Signed with Trent, Durham College, and UOIT allowing Trent to offer UOIT degree program electives; define process for joint programs; and elaborate on articulation agreements with Durham College.

Trent University Oshawa Student Association is established


The name changes to Trent Durham Student Association when the University changed the name from Trent University in Oshawa to Trent University Durham in 2015

Official opening of the Thornton road campus


In September of 2010, Trent University Oshawa officially opened their own campus on Thornton road in Oshawa.
