The world came to the brink of a nuclear war when the U.S. spotted nuclear missiles in Cuba. However, by President Kennedy's demand, the Soviets withdrew the missiles.

Despite continuously increasing the amount of arms, Ford and Carter judged the Soviets for stockpiling their arms, making them seem blatantly hypocritical.

Afghanistan

1979

The Soviets occupied Afghanistan, where the U.S. put in a large portion of their money. Because the Truman Doctrine clearly stated that the U.S. was to stop the spread of Communism, they secretly trained Afghani rebels to fight against the Soviets.

Soviet Withdrawal from Afghanistan

May 15, 1988 - February 15, 1989

The Soviets withdrew from Afghanistan as the invasion became too pricey.

The Cold War ended with the fall of the USSR.
