Dred Scott Decision

March 6, 1857

The US Supreme Court said, "Slaves are known as property."

Abraham Lincon becomes President

November 6, 1860

Abraham Lincon was the sixteenth president of the United States. The south did not like this.

Succession of South carolina

December 20, 1860

In this event South Carolina was the first slave state to leave the US and try to make their own country.

Confederacy is formed

February 1861

When the confederacy was formed the new president was Jefferson Davis. Once the Union won the Civil war they were forced back into the United States.

Firing on Fort Sumter

April 12, 1861

This was the start of the Civil War, the Confederacy fired on the Union's fort, called Fort Sumter. They shot it because, it was in their land.

The fall of Richmond

May 20, 1861

As the capital of the Confederacy States for almost all of the Civil War, most of the defenders fled South on the last open railroad.

Battle of Bull Run

July 21, 1861

The first major land battle in Virginia. In this battle, the Confederacy won, the Union lost this battle.

Battle of Second Manassas

August 28, 1862 - August 30, 1862

In this battle, the Union lost, the Condfederacy won.

Battle of Antietam

September 17, 1862

In this battle the Union won, the Confederacy lost. After this battle Abraham wrote the Emancipation Proclamation.

Emanicaption Proclamation

Jan 1, 1863

Abraham Lincon said that if the Union won all slaves would be set free.

Battle of Gettysburg

July 1, 1863 - July 3, 1863

Confederacy won, Union lost this battle the Battle of Gettysburg.

Battle of Chatanooga

November 23, 1863 - November 25, 1863

On November 25, 1863 the Union got defeated by the Confederacy.

Surrender at Appomattox

April 9, 1865

This surrender was one of the last battles of the Civil War.

President Lincon's assassination

April 15, 1865

On April 15, 1865 President Lincon got assinated from the White House he served as the sixteenth president if the US.
