63 BCE

Gaius Octavius Thurinus, later known as Octavian and Augustus Caesar is born.

Augustus accompanies great uncle to Spain

45 BCE

Octavian accompanies Great Uncle, Julius Caesar on a military expedition to Spain.

Completes training and discovers he was adopted

44 BCE

Octavian completes military and academic studies. Whilst there discovers Julius Caesar was assassinated and he was adopted by him, making him heir to the throne.

Augustus craetes the Second Triumvirate

43 BCE - 33 BCE

Octavian, Marc Antony and Marcus Lepidus form a political alliance called the Second Triumvirate that allows all of them to rule the Roman Empire for 5 years, and therefore this ends the Roman Republic.

Battles Marc Antony in the battle of Actium

30 BCE

Battles and defeats Marc Antony and Cleopatra in the battle of Actium, due to Marc leaving his wife, Octavian’s sister, for Cleopatra. This therefore makes Octavian the undisputed Roman Emperor.

Augustus was awarded his name and became emperor

27 BCE

Awarded by the senate, and from after that time, Octavian was referred to as Augustus Caesar. This was also the year when he became emperor

Augustus dies

14 AD

Due to illness, Augustus dies
