NUR/587 Leadership and Management in Nursing June 23, 2014 Jodi Protokowicz
Embracing values such, as caring integrity and diversity are essential to my success as a teacher. These values are foundation blocks for growth and advancement in my career. As a home care nurse, maintaining these values as a part of my daily routine for the next seven months and integrating them at a higher level is significant to me to assist in my growth and maturity.
Adhering to a time schedule for the next six months that enables me to get enough rest will not only improve my productivity as a nurse but also prevent potential health problems from occurring. Explaining obtaining this degree and delegating responsibilities to other siblings within my family and asking for their support is necessary for overcoming my own weaknesses. Conversing and networking with other individuals within the next six months, joining support group for nurses, and using their tips for success is necessary for me to overcome these professional weaknesses.
Nursing education plays a pivotal role in my future. The experience I acquire over the years motivates me to not only advance my career in the nursing profession but also help others who may share a similar vision. Completing the remainder of my classes as scheduled will equip me with the education necessary to help others.
Locally the leadership I will provide to the nursing profession comprises an educative and informative role in which I will continue to provide information to the patient’s I visit daily helping them to make a difference in their lives. My goal as an educator is to choose learning opportunities that help my patients build on their strengths and overcome personal limitations. I will also provide regular feedback and advice to my patients to help them improve their care. I will continue this local leadership for the next two years until I successfully transition into my new role as nurse educator.
Blanco, Valente, de Lima, Oliveira, and Correa (2013) argue that the conduct of leaders, openly affects the approach of their followers, and organization tactics are essential to effective team functioning, and offers better situations in the place of work. The ability of the nurse leader to respect my vision as a potential nurse leader recognizing the challenges of attaining success, offering mentoring, and support is necessary. The role of a nurse leader is vital in ensuring that this occurs. Maintaining weekly communication with my mentor and addressing my weaknesses with my nurse leader for the next four years is the first step in the right direction.
Within the next five years, I see myself as a nurse educator making a difference in the life of a student. I also see myself continuing the additional role as a clinical manager educating nurses in the home care setting. Asking for family support is critical to making this become a reality. Continuing with my classes on a regular basis, and using the resources available online will help in experiencing success. Following the guidelines for each course, allocate time from my busy schedule daily, and dedicating time to doing schoolwork will ensure that I display the appropriate skills and competence to work as an educator in the net five years.
The online classes I will continue to attend will help me in becoming more assertive, and this will assist me with my role as a teacher enabling me to exhibit control of a classroom setting. Working in a home health setting contributes to the professional strengths necessary such as boldness, flexibility, firmness, and assurance and will help me to achieve my future-nursing role.
