Mary queen regent was forced to sign the treaty of Greenwich, which was made between England and Scotland, the terms of the treaty included a future marriage of Edward and Mary Queen of Scots. Mary Queen Regent and the Catholic party soon rejected the marriage agreement.

Henry sent Seymour to renegotiate the marriage proposal "rough wooing" this did little to gain the support of the Scots for the marriage proposal- England had landed in France- supported by Charles V. Henry had two fights on his hands at once, Scotland and France. However the English army was to small to do any real damage to the French, Henry captures the port of Boulogne- however by 1546 2 million had been spent on the wars.

Charles V withdrew from the conflict in France. Henry's health was deteriorating with the growing cost of war Henry was forced to make a peace treaty with France- The Treaty of Andres, that England would have Boulogne for 8 years.

The already weak peace treaty with France was undermined when an Franco- Scottish alliance was made, England was exposed to both for invasion. Henry dies, leaving a minor on the throne, because of his age he could be exploited by ministers for their own personal glory or gain, also more vulnerable to attack. Lord Paget suggested with all the treats: Scotland, France and Spain, he suggest that a protestant alliance is to risky but to form an alliance with Charles V. Other countries wanted to see if the reformation would last past Henry.
