He was born on the 29th of January 1850 and was born in Greenwich, England.
Lawrence went to Queen Elizabeth's School at kirky Lonsdale, Westmoreland
They reached Sydney in the La Hogue on 5 November 1865
In 1865 (When Lawrence Hargrave was 15) his father sent Ralph back to England to fetch him.
He was an aeronautical pioneer, Inventor, astronomer and coal mine owner.
He returned to Sydney at the end of February 1876
In 1878 (when he was 28) he accepted a position as an astronomical assistant at the Sydney Observatory.
He observed the transit of Mercury in 1881
Lawrence Hargrave became an inventor.
Lawrence Hargrave experimented with monoplane models.
He also experimented with monoplane models in 1892.
Trochoided plane,to the local Royal Society on 6 August 1884.
He built 17 unsuccesful steam engines.
Lawrence Hargrave buil the box kite in 1893.
At Stamwell Park, New South Wales, on November 12,1894, he was lifted 4.8 metres ( almost 16 feet) off the ground by four box kites of his own construction!
He visited England in 1899
He died on the 14th of July 1915 at Darlinghurst, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. (When he was 65)
