The Treaty of Versailles is signed at the end of World War One. The signing of the treaty meant that Germany took full responsibility for causing the war, had to make concessions on boarders, and make repayments to affected nations. This ruined both morale and the economy in Germany. Hitler reminded the public, when generating support, which political party members signed this document and brought shame to the nation.

Hitler becomes both the head of State and the Head of government. An enabling act is passed that allows him to create his own laws, and shortly thereafter all opposition parties are banned, and the heads of those parties are put into concentration camps. Hitler uses fear of communism and economic failure to appeal to the middle and lower classes, which were the basis of his support. He creates a god complex around himself and establishes himself as the father figure of Germany through speeches and propaganda.
