Printing Press was created

1451 - 1452

Johann Gutenburg developed a way to print things easier. the worker would rearrange the stamps, swipe ink on it, and press paper on it.

Eramus created a book

1517 - 1518

Eramus wrote a book about the church's problems and it was the foundation for Luther's reformation.

Luther posts the 95 Theses

1517 - 1518

The 95 Theses was a document that listed 95 problems the Christian Church had.

The Bible is Translated

1525 - 1526

Willliam Tyndale translates the bible to English. This causes an eruption of criticism ro the church because now other people can read the bible and the church isn't following its rules.

King Henry VIII

1534 - 1535

He was the major figure in the Reformation in England.

Counter Reformation

Christofer Columbus

1492 - 1493

Christofer Columbus sails the seas to America.

Ignatius of Loyola

1534 - 1535

He founded the Jesuits (the Society of Jesus). The Jesuits were one of the major spearheads of the Counter Reformation.

Francis Xavier

1541 - 1542

He was one of the original Jesuits and one of the greatest missionaries of all time. He was invited to go to the East Indies by John III of Portugal.

Council of Trent

1545 - 1546

The Council of Trent was a group of Church leaders that came together for a meeting to discuss the church teachings. The meetings were held at the city of Trent and the council basically recreated the practices of the church.

Effects of the Reformation

Hugenots

1562 - 1563

The Hugenots were the French protestants.

St. Bartholomew’s Day Massacre

1572 - 1573

Catholic rioters killed about 3,000 protestants.

Edict of Nantes

1598 - 1599

The Edict of Nantes granted free religion , except in a few places.

Treaty of Westphalia

1648 - 1649

Ended the Thirty Year’ War. It
allowed rulers to determine whether their countries would be
Catholic or Protestant.This is the beginning of freedom of
religion in the United States.
