Spanish-American War

Causes: general butchner wyler used drastic force on cubans using concetration camps, the american yellow press glorified the spanish brutality, religious groups argued for intervention
America's Involvement: the maine was sunk & spanish was blamed for it, the delome letter made americans angry(spanards said Pres. Mckinney was weak)

World War I

July 28, 1914 - November 11, 1918

Causes: the conflicts and hostility of the four decades leading up to the war. Militarism, alliances, imperialism, and nationalism played major roles in the conflict as well. The immediate origins of the war, however, lay in the decisions taken by statesmen and generals

World War II

September 1, 1939 - September 2, 1945

Causes: the desire and ability of Adolf Hitler, in control of Nazi Germany to dominate Europe and gain control especially of the agrarian resources to the east of Germany.

Origins of the Cold War

1945 - 1947

Causes: A series of events during and after World War II exacerbated tensions, including the Soviet-German pact during the first two years of the war leading to subsequent invasions

Korean War

Causes: the invasion of South Korea by North Korea.

Vietnam War

1965 - 1975

Causes: classic symptoms, components and consequences of the Cold War. The causes of the Vietnam War revolve around the simple belief held by America that communism was threatening to expand all over south-east Asia.

Gulf War

August 2, 1990 - February 28, 1991

Causes: actually started when Iraq was at war with Iran. Iraq tried to convince Kuwait to dissolve the debt as Iraq had done Kuwait a favour by being at war with Iran, Kuwait declined and this caused a rift between the two countries. The next step was for Iraq to ask all OPEC members to reduce oil production so the price of crude oil would increase.

In this time period lots of Europeans and Asians came to America to get better jobs and have more opportunities of freedom.

Many new inventions, styles, and things. People pushed the "norm" and did new things.

Government

The Progressive Era

1900 - 1929

People called 'Progressives' worked to make American society better. (democratic government, right to vote, etc.) Close to the "roaring twenties" era.

Laissez-faire

1920

Letting the people do what they want, slowly but surely, the government adds in and helps the people with things that need to become a general standard.

Jazz Age

1920 - 1930

began in the twenties and ended when the Great Depression began (1930's)
