This conference consisted of the "Big Three" Allied Powers as well. They met to negotiate terms for the end of World War II

VJ - Day

September 2, 1945

On September 2, 1945, Japan formally surrendered to the United States after we dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima (August 6, 1965) and Nagasaki (August 9, 1945)

Marshall Plan is Announced

This plan was enacted to provide aid to European countries as well as deter them away from the Soviet Union's communist take over

The HUAC opens hearings investigating communist activity in Hollywood

The HUAC speculated that directors, screenwriters, and actors/actresses were creating movies that persuaded individuals to turn to communism. As a result, an abundance of individuals were called to testify in court in front of the HUAC

With the scare of communism, individuals were accusing one another of communist activity, especially in Hollywood as anyone who implemented Russians or story lines that supported communism would be sent to court

Berlin Blockade Begins and Ends

Julius and Ethel were accused of sharing atomic secrets with the USSR and were eventually executed for their crimes even though they denied it

Korean War Begins and Ends

June 25, 1950 - July 27, 1953

This war initiated as North Korea was involved in a major conflict with South Korea. North Korea did not like South Korea at all.

Vietnam War Begins and Ends

November 1, 1955 - April 30, 1975

This was the longest war that America has ever been involved in in history.

November 8, 1960

On this day, JFK was elected president

Rise of the Berlin Wall

August 13, 1961

This wall was built to prevent individuals from fleeing the to the capitalist west. Berlin and the surrounding areas were took over by communist USSR

Cuban missile crisis

October 15, 1962 - October 28, 1962

This event occurred as American found that Cuba had obtained several nuclear missiles which transformed into missile sites. The U.S. received this information via U-2 spy planes that took pictures of the sites. This was at a time when America and the Soviet Union were on the brink of a catastrophic nuclear war. To stop this, JFK ordered a blockade around Cuba to prevent anymore missile shipments from coming in.

Apollo 11 Lands on the Moon

This was the first time that human beings (Neil Armstrong) had ever entered space and landed on the moon. Russia followed a few years later after America

The Berlin Wall Falls

November 9, 1989

The wall "fell" when the leader of the East German Communist Party announced that citizens of the GDR could cross the border whenever they pleased

Fall of the Soviet Union-End of the Cold War
