World War II as Germany invades Poland.

Although the United States remains neutral, President Roosevelt seeks to aid the Allies, such as Britain and France.

France surrenders to Germany.

1940

Japanese planes bomb the United States fleet at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

1941

The next day, the United States enters World War II on the Allied side.

The United States Navy defeats Japan at the Battle of Midway

1942

Britain defeats German forces in Egypt.

1942

On D-Day, June 6, Allied troops land at Normandy in France.

1944

Within a few months, France is liberated from the Nazis.
