World War 2 begins as Germany invades Poland.

1939

Although the United States remains neutral, President Roosevelt seeks to aid the Allies, such as Britain and France.

France surrenders to Germany.

1940

Japanese planes bomb the United States fleet at Pearl Harbor , Hawaii.

1941

The next day, the United States enters WW2 on the Allied side.

The U.S Navy defeats Japan at the Battle of Midway.

1942

Britain defeats German forces in Egypt.

1942

On D-Day , June 6 , Allied troops land in Normandy in France.

1944

Within a few months, France is liberated from the Nazis .

German troops are driven out of the Soviet Union.

1944

World War II ends with the surrender of Germany in May and Japan in September.
