The American Civil war changed the social and economic structure of the southern United States quite significantly. This impact has affected the South and southern culture for over 100 years.
Prevented blacks from voting in the South. This was something affecting southern culture of the United States. Although it was techincally legal for blacks to vote during these times, many southerners used violence, intimidation, and assassination to try to prevent blacks from voting.
Plessy v. Ferguson
This event marked the beginning of the "Seperate but Equal" act. It was a legal representation of Segregation. This meant that blacks and whites had to travel on seperate forms of public transportation.
