Robbery at a 7/11 in Cambridge, near the MIT campus.

Police officer shot

04/18/2013 10:30 p.m.

An MIT campus police officer was found shot in his car.
Moments later, police received reports of an armed carjacking by two males. The victim was carjacked at gunpoint and kept in the car with the suspects for about a half hour. The victim was released at a gas station in Cambridge. He was not injured.
The suspects threw explosives from the car as police followed it into Watertown. The suspects and police exchanged gunfire, and one of the suspects was killed. A transit police officer is seriously injured.

Gunshots and explosions are heard in Watertown. Dozens of police officers and FBI agents converge on a Watertown neighborhood. A helicopter circles overhead.

Suspects confirmed

04/19/2013 4 a.m.

The bomb suspects were confirmed to be the same ones who killed the MIT officer and high jacked the car.

Towns go on lockdown

Watertown, Waltham, Belmont, Newton, Allston-Brighton and Cambridge all go on lockdown while police search for the suspect who escaped.
