Early settlers came to Iowa for the rich prairie soil.

1833

The first Iowa State Fair is held to raise better cattle.

1854

The railroad moves agriculture products in and out of Iowa.

1880

The Waterloo Tractor Company builds and sells tractors.

1896

Cattle and corn are Iowa's major farm products.

1900

Farmers start growing a new crop: Soybeans.

1930

Iowa's first soil conservation district is established.

1940

The number to tractors exceeds the number of horses and mules.

1954

The Living History Farms is created near Des Moines.

1970

Iowa ranks #1 in corn and soybean production.

1980

Agriculture goes hi-tech.

Nashua-Plainfield History

First cabin was built in Nashua.

1854

Miss Maggie taught the first school in Nashua.

1856

The Little Brown Church was established.

1864

Wooden Railroad was built over the Cedar River.

1868

First Graduating class from Nashua High School.

1885

Nashua High School began their first football team.

1896

Construction began on Elementary School.

1961

A new cement bridge was built over the Cedar RIver.

Nashua Bulldogs Boys basketball Championship.
