Program Preview

01/06/2014 - 02/28/2014

Promote the program to the public with a variety of marketing strategies including flyers, posting in public places, and previews of the incentives and benefits to the community. We want to give primary care providers and health department officials enough time to communicate to the target population about the program and encourage them to attend.

Initial Survey/ Health Assessment

03/03/2014 - 03/04/2014

This analysis of the women will be conducted at the beginning of the first session. We will assess the levels of their current health both mentally and physically.

Week 1: Introduction/ Promote Overall Wellbeing

03/03/2014 - 03/04/2014

This will be where our program begins and to start we would like for the women to feel comfortable and open with each other. After introductions and interaction exercises we would like to explain to them our mission and goals for the class so everyone knows the expectations. Lastly we would like to give the women an overview of what can promote a healthy lifestyle so they have an outlook on the rest of the classes to come.

Week 2: Self-Esteem

03/10/2014 - 03/11/2014

We believe that before these women can accept a changed lifestyle they must first believe they have the power to make this change. This week will be focused on building up the confidence they need to accept that they are worth making better choices for themselves and their baby.

Week 3: Mother's Lifestyle

03/17/2014 - 03/18/2014

This week we want to promote a better lifestyle for the women involved in this program. This will include nutrition for the mother and other aspects of her diet she will need to focus on both while pregnant and after giving birth. We would also like to encourage them to engage in physical activity, and make safe choices for the women and their families.

Week 4: Baby's Health

03/24/2014 - 03/25/2014

This week will be focused on the key roles a mother must take for the health of her baby this includes: breastfeeding, folic acid, and prenatal vitamins. We also want to present mothers with options for their children including government funded programs (W.I.C., Early Start, etc.), daycare, and furthering their education.

Week 5: Coninuing Education

03/31/2014 - 04/01/2014

At this point hopefully we have encouraged these young women to think about their future and where their lives are headed. In this session of the program we want to present options to the girls about what may lie in their futures and new goals to attain and reach.

Intermediate Survey/ Health Assessment

04/07/2014 - 04/08/2014

This analysis of the women will be conducted at the end of the last session. We will assess the levels of their current health both mentally and physically through both survey and quick medical tests.

Week 6: New Beginnings

04/07/2014 - 04/08/2014

Lastly we would like to present our participants with a little graduation ceremony in light of all they have accomplished by taking their first steps in the right directions to their new lives. We want to encourage these girls to think of the people in this program as their new support network that they can always approach with questions and concerns as well as form friendships that will help them follow through on their goals. This program is ending in the spring to promote the transition in the year along with the lives of our participants, this is their new beginning.

Long-term Outcome Survey

04/06/2015 - 04/07/2015

This survey will be re-administered one year prior to the end of the program in order to conduct a follow-up on the participants. This will allow us to see the progress our participants have made in their lives as a result of the programs success.
