Animal Welfare Legislation
Protection of Animals act- perceived cruelty to animals at western rodeos. Penalties- a fine not exceeding £100 or imprisonment exceeding 3 months.
Pet animals Act- effects pet shops, no one without a licence can own a pet shop, anyone refusing to get a licence will be prosecuted, pet shop owners can't sell pets to anyone under 12 years old.
The animal boarding establishment- keepers of establishments including private dwelling and business providing accommodation of others cats and dogs. Penalties are fines.
Breeding of dogs acts- owner must have a licence, cant be given to anyone who has been disqualified from keeping a breeding establishment. Penalties- time in prison and a fine.
ers and Farriers amendment Act- to prevent the suffering and cruelty to horses arising from the shoeing of horses by unskilled persons. Penalties- a fine.
Protection against cruel tethering Act- to protect horses, asses and mules. Penalties- bans, imprisonment and fines.
Animal Protection Law- Effects anyone that is cruel to an animal in any way. Penalties include imprisonment of up to 6 months or a fine.
Protection of animals (scotland) Act- effects people with livestock, pets or anyone who permits animal suffering. Penalties include person being disqualified from having an animal on a first year conv
The breeding and sale of dogs (welfare) Act- regulates the welfare of dogs kept in commercial breeding establishments. Penalties- imprisonment not exceeding 3 months or a fine.
Animal Welfare Act- all animal owners or carers follow the 5 welfare needs. Penalties- a fine up to £20,000, a lifetime ban from owning animals or imprisonment.
