January - China and the USSR acknowledged Vietnam as a communist country and they begin to supply economic and military aid.
June - US identify Viet Minh as a communist threat and they assist France in an operation against Minh
In the end of 1964 there are 23.000 military advisers in Vietnam

February - US president Johnson orders bombings in North Vietnam.
November - 300 americans and hundreds are injured in the first large battle of the war
There are now 485.000 US soldiers in Vietnam
January - North Vietnam bombs the south
November - New president Nixon wants to leave the war
After negotiations, a deal of peace was made.
The US forces would leave and South Vietnam would determine its own future
US troops had left, however, the northern and southern forces kept fighting, accusing each other of breaking the terms of the former peace deal.
