Born on the island of Corsica, Napoleon rapidly rose through the ranks of the French army during the revolution(1789-1799). After taking control of France’s political power in 1799, or coup d etat, Napoleon crowned himself emperor.

The first meeting of the estates general was called by King Louis XVI in 1789. The King said that each state will vote as a body. The Estates were sectioned by social class and were important social division in the ancient French culture.

The 3rd Estates dramatic act of defiance by their representatives during the meeting of the Estates general at the beginning of the French Revolution. The 3rd Estate deputies realized that in any attempt at reform that they would be outvoted by the other privileged orders. After, the clergy and Nobles form the National Assembly, on June 17.

The violent attack on the government by the people took place in Paris,France. This signaled the start of the French Revolution.

The dark and violent period of France during the revolution. Radicals took control of the revolutionary government. If not loyal to the revolution execution was a option . After the death of Louis XVI in 1793, the Reign of Terror began.
Napoleon’s Empire collapses
Napoleon gave up the French throne, ending his reign.
